Are Researchers and Consultants Responsible?

Researchers play a critical role. Often, researchers focus narrowly on a topic, frequently discounting issues such as total number of devices and impacts on people in Risk Group 3. Consultants that fail to account for the spatial, spectral, and temporal properties of LED light beams are causing injury to people.

Which Companies are Responsible?

Below are the letters we have sent, notifying these companies that they are liable for the injuries caused by LED radiation.

Transportation Companies

The auto companies self-certify that their headlights comply with NHTSA FMVSS-108. LED headlights cannot possibly meet FMVSS-108 regulations because LED radiation is non-uniform, and because the luminous intensity at the center of an LED chip in a car headlight will far exceed the maximums set in FMVSS-108. We know this because LED chips already exceed 100,000,000 nits of peak luminance.

HR 3684 – August, 2021 – The Soft Lights Foundation worked with Congressman Peter DeFazio’s office to craft legislation to study LED radiation from vehicle headlights. This proposed legislation was added to HR 3684 (see section 10108 on page 1506) .  Somebody stripped this text out of the Senate version of HR 10108 but ensured that the ADB text was inserted.  We surmise that this was done at the behest of the auto industry.
